Local non-profit organisation, Esirorm Foundation, powered by the digital marketing agency, Esirom, will be celebrating Earth Day and starting National Park Week with a series of events on Saturday (April 22), which is also observed worldwide as Earth Day.

The non-profit works to generate opportunities around sustainable development, combatting plastic pollution and promote environmental protection.

The theme for World Earth Day 2023 is ‘Invest In Our Planet’. Itmarks the 53rd observance of the day. This ongoing theme encourages everyone to invest in a better future for the planet by tackling pressing environmental issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and waste reduction.

Esirom Foundation has partnered with Holywell Park, Jamaica Conservation & Development Trust, Donovan Manning, also known as ‘DuttyFoot Yogi, and Paint & Sip to execute earth-friendly activities for their Earth Day activities.

National Park Week, on the other hand, will extend until Sunday (April 30).

For the duration of the celebrated week,, the Holywell Park will be free to access.

“[The week] is a celebration that aims to increase awareness of and visitation to The Blue and John Crow Mountains Park, as well as Jamaica’s other parks,” says Esirom Foundation in a story highlight titled ‘NPW’ on their Instagram page.

“Our National Park is a habitat to species that are either endangered or endemic to Jamaica and plays a crucial role in preserving the environment,” it continues.

Here are the ‘Earth Day in the Park’ planed events:

Yoga in the Hills with Donovan Manning #DuttyFootYogi (7am to 8:45 am)

The events will start with a rejuvenating and intimate session with Master yoga and pilates instructor, Donovan Manning. People are invited to “come to flex your body, quiet your mind, and breathe cleaner air in the lush Blue Mountains”.

Holywell Scavenger Hunt (11:30 am to 1 pm)

Explore Holywell’s five walking trails like never before with the Holywell Scavenger Hunt. Find the clues, see the sights and have fun with your partner, family or friends. Participants may download the Scavenger Hunt Checklist on www.jamaicaparkweek.com and take pictures of their findings. The first five persons to complete the checklist are promised rewards.

Grow Your Own Food: Plant in a Take-Home Pot (2pm to 3pm)

Upcycle a plastic bottle and create your very own take-home potted plant! The activity promises to guide participants through a “Grow Your Own Food” planting session, using seeds straight from vegetables eaten everyday. Participants will be able to take it home, watch it grow, and reap their own food. Additionally, each person will get to interact with Holywell’s forest rangers and learn about the work they do to preserve the trees and plants that cover the Blue & John Crow Mountains.

Paint & Sip in the Park (3pm to 5pm)

With this activity, participants will get to unwind and recharge with a unique ‘Paint & Sip’ experience at Holywell Park. The idea is that people will bring a blanket or pillow to sit on as they connect with nature, socialise, drink wine, and produce a personal work of art to take home.
