ESIROM continues on wellness train by hosting one of three blood drives Donor Fitzroy Lewis pauses and gives a smile after donating a pint of blood at the blood drive. The team at ESIROM Limited, through We Care, an initiative under the company’s corporate response arm, on Saturday (April 16) executed a blood drive in aid of good health and well being. Aviation Depot Supervisor Chadwick Paul is all smiles as he holds his pint of donated blood for the wellness cause. The digital techies have taken on a push for wellness by planning three blood drives for the year and have partnered with the National Chest Hospital to host each drive. The blood drives are endorsed by Miss Jamaica World 2022 Khalia Hall, who also signed up as a volunteer donor. The next two upcoming drives in this partnership are slated for July and October. It is estimated that one blood donation can save up to three lives as, when blood donations are collected, depending on the needs, ones blood can be split into several parts to meet the needs of different patients (for example, platelets may be given to a child with leukaemia in order to give this child a chance to live, while your red cells may help an accident victim get well). Khalia Hall, Miss Jamaica World 2022 cracks a joke while volunteering to give blood at the ESIROM blood drive. Dr Dánielle Levy, medical doctor at National Blood Transfusion Services, also expressed gratitude towards this initiative sharing, “Blood drives are extremely important and it is also important that we push persons to be prepared when coming in to give blood. Your iron levels are key to being able to give blood and your general wellbeing. To have great iron levels, it means to eat a well balanced diet daily, eating three portions of food that are good sources of iron such as eggs, nuts, brown rice, fish and leafy vegetables.”She continued, “Vitamin C also helps you to absorb more iron and when coming in, avoid drinking tea before or after, as this may reduce the absorption of iron from foods.” Nurse Wright and Michael Leon do a quick check and assessment of his blood donation. Further to the blood drives, the ESIROM volunteer programme allows interested persons to represent the brand, lend their voice, time, and experience to Jamaican communities and as a volunteer once signed up, you will be able to participate in all sustainability activities for the year.
